Blurb
Three-City Book Symposium
Blurb, a leader in online photo book design and
print-on-demand publishing, held a series of 3 events in San Francisco, London,
and New York from mid-September to late-October 2008. The program, dubbed
Photography.Book.Now, consisted of a symposium, social meet-up components, and
included an award ceremony for the competition with the same name in SF.
San Francisco
At the first event in San Francisco, the company’s home
base, guests gathered in the swinging nightclub and beloved landmark Bimbo’s in
North Beach. The symposium brought together speakers from various perspectives
(publisher, designer, photographer) to discuss the modern photography book
movement.
Following the symposium, guests were able to browse the Book
Salon where the Photography.Book.Now contest winners and honorable mentions
were thoughtfully presented on bookshelves for easy reading. The meet-up gave
guests a chance to network, have discussions with other artists and explore the
Blurb books, which were the centerpiece of the event.
The award show pointed the spotlight on the contest winners
through elegantly simple video montages of the open books. The winning books
represented an eclectic mix of subject matter from gardens to bridges and were
presented to art students, amateurs and professional photographers alike,
showing the versatility of the Blurb product.
London
The PBN event in London was held at Delfina, a
restaurant-by-day, art gallery-by-night venue with a uniquely industrial twist
located in Southwark. In a city where Blurb is less well-known, a big PR effort
was made to draw in the right audience. The meet-up was packed, and the guests
devoured the Blurb books as well as charming British finger foods.
New York
In New York, the PBN event fit seamlessly into the New
Museum’s own mission and collection. The meet-up was constructed in the lobby
less than 30 minutes after the museum closed to patrons, but still had the
crisp and clean look of a permanent exhibit. Guests were drawn by the enticing
location, and were captivated by the Blurb books as well.
The PBN event series was a huge success, drawing in new
users to Blurb, and generating profitable sales on their website after each
event. Discussions have already begun in order to develop the event into a
bigger and better enterprise for Blurb in 2009.

Elizabeth Arden
691 5th Ave. Store Launch
Catherine Zeta Jones, spokesperson of Elizabeth Arden, unveiled the 691 5th Ave store opening on March 6, 2008 which was produced by the Paint The Town Red (PTTR) production team. PTTR planned a breakfast at the St. Regis for the press followed by the cutting of the ribbon in front of the store which created International media buzz. Branding was an important element to this event which was incorporated in every detail from the ribbon itself to the customized carpet and barricades. PTTR was able to manage all the logistical aspects of this event without a hitch. Obstacles presented themselves when planning an event on 5th Ave but there was nothing that PTTR was unable to overcome from securing the city permits to making sure the timing of the event was right on point.
