Is your location referral service really free?

Yes, you do not pay anything for our referral service. We are paid a commission by the locations when they book events we refer to them.

Is your commission added to the price we are given by the venue? Won't it be more expensive to use your service?

Our commission is deducted from the price given to you by the venue. The locations we work with sign agreements with us in which they indicate they will not increase prices to our clients. Locations factor our services into their sales and marketing costs. They may make a little less money on events that we refer to them, but that is usually more than made up for with our volume. Plus, of the many people attending your event, some will likely book the location for their own events, or tell their friends about it, and on those subsequent events the location makes its full markup. If anything, our service can usually get you a better price than you could on your own, particularly if you have your account executive negotiate for you.

How is your database different form location guidebooks?

Our information is typically more current
Paint The Town Red constantly updates our online database. While most location guides are printed every one or two years, we add new listings every day since this is the same database that our Event Planners use on a daily basis to book over 500 events per year! We are contacted by PR firms and publicists about soon-to-be-opened locations before the general public knows about them. Also, as places go out of business, or stop doing events, we delete them from our listings promptly.

We have listings the guidebooks don’t
Many locations are private clubs, mansions, and cultural facilities that prefer to maintain a low profile and will not be listed in any commercial books. Our contacts and service can offer these sites to our clients.

We verify the data
Most of the location guidebooks send specification forms to their sites, asking the sites to fill in capacity, price, style, etc. They use the site's specifications in their books, without having seen the location in question, let alone having seen an event take place there. Not the case with PTTR. Our Event Planners visit the majority of sites we recommend, often during events, to see how the room lays out for different size groups.

We do not accept advertising
Most guidebooks are advertiser-driven, meaning they only list those sites that pay for an ad, limiting your choices substantially. Most private clubs, museums and cultural facilities, however, do not advertise to the public. While PTTR works with larger, well-known sites advertise, we also unlock the less well-known sites that do not to advertise.

When booking an event, do I work through you or should I call the sites directly?

We work with our clients on all different levels. Some people prefer to call the sites directly and some prefer us to make the appointments for them. It all depends on what is most comfortable for you. In many cases, our event planners can arrange to accompany you on your site inspections, offering their expertise in comparing locations.

What if I already called a venue on my own and then you suggest it? Will I have to go through your service or can I continue my conversation with that venue independently?

We prefer to be your contact for all the locations you are considering. The value of our service is not in merely 'finding' the right location, but rather in expertly guiding our clients through the site selection process. We'll help you compare locations, negotiate the best price and offer time-saving advice on how to plan the best event in a given location. If for some reason there is a conflict of interest, your Event Planner will tell you.

Do I have to use one of the sites you recommend?

No, you are under no obligation to use one of the sites we recommend. We want all our clients to hold their events at the location that is best for them.

Do you plan and coordinate the event in addition to finding a site?

We have a dedicated full-service Production Department, which is available to our Corporate and Non-Profit clients. For more information on these services, go to Event Coordination.

Do you get pricing from the venues for me or do I do the negotiating myself?

You're free to do the negotiating yourself, however, you're better served by letting your Event Planner do it for you. This is our area of expertise, and we place hundreds of events a year. There is absolutely no charge for this service.
